Treating Dry Skin

Minnie Powell just came home from skiarea and was filling in her friend Charlotte Taylor about the miserable time she had with dry skin out in the cold. Charlotte told her that she had the exact same skin problem at Estenc-Entraunes, France. An aspiring Olympian filled her in on the three things that will keep your skin in good condition in cold weather. She definitely expects to use that on her trip to Poiana Braşov, Romania coming up next month.

Winter is the worst time on our skin. A huge number of people battle itchy, rough, flaking, cracked and painful skin. Heading out to the nearest store to pick up the most intensive healing lotions and creams to help get rid of the pain and heal the cracks for moments of relief. However, most people are missing the most needed and simple ways to not only get the help you need for dry, chapped and cracked skin, but also help prevent it.

People are made up mostly of water. For some reason, in the winter, we miss the need the body has of drinking enough water. Whereas in the summer, when we are sweating and exerting ourselves, we know we need to drink water to help replace the water as we lost. In the winter the frigid air does much the same to our body. It sucks that moisture right out of our bodies. This then dries and cracks our skin, leaving it rough and itchy. Making sure that you take in 8 to 10 glasses of water a day will improve the chances in the fight over your dry and rough skin. Try it for the next two weeks and you will undoubtedly see a noticeable improvement in your skin in a matter of days.

Staying with the requirement of moist skin, a reliable moisturizing cream is also a good idea. Try to get one that is appropriate for your skin type so you won't end up with oily uncomfortable skin. I recommend a cream instead of a lotion in cold weather, since a cream is thicker and more protective of the skin. Also spend the time you need to read the label. The cream or lotion that you use in the summer is great for the summer, in the winter you will most likely need a different lotion. Find one that does not have any type of alcohol in the first few ingredients, as alcohol will actually dry out your skin.

Dress the right way in cold weather. Don't just write this one off, consider it carefully. The more exposed areas of skin that you have increases the opportunity that the cold has to remove the moisture from your skin. Try to layer your clothes and let that next to the skin layer be clothes that are made of cotton. Cotton will let you skin breathe, will keep you warm and won’t irritate your skin.

Take these three basic methods, you will not only get a big improvement in that really dry skin, an not only that you will also help prevent your skin from becoming dry. Drinking enough fluids, the proper moisturizing cream for you and the right clothing and you will have healthy, well hydrated, comfortable skin to be in.
